It is now more than 100 days since the UK went into ‘lockdown’ to help control the spread of COVID-19 and it’s fair to say that those 100 days have been a very strange and challenging time for everyone. So many things that we usually take for granted have been postponed or even cancelled – football matches, holidays, school outings and theatre trips to name just a few. Although restrictions are now being eased in some areas of life, it’s clear that it’s going to be some time yet before we really feel like life is getting back to normal.
When lockdown started we were hopeful that by the beginning of July the restrictions on ‘mass gatherings’ would be lifted and we’d be getting back to running our Bubble Rush events. Sadly, this has not yet happened. And, along with others in the live events sector, we are still waiting for the Government to give us some idea of when this might happen and what measures we will need to take to enable us to restart our events.
We have been using the time to study what has been happening in other countries around the world – to see how they are getting things going again. Around the world there have been some very imaginative approaches by retailers, sports venues and local authorities to managing everything from check-in queues to the layout of temporary toilets; all aspects of events that we, and our charity partners, need to be thinking about when planning a Bubble Rush. We have been keeping in close contact with our charity partners and venues to share information and discuss how we can run Bubble Rush to ensure we can manage the extra hygiene and distancing measures that may be required. Outdoor events may carry a lower risk of COVID-19 transmission, but we still need to take every precaution to keep our staff, volunteers and participants safe.
Excitingly, in several countries running events are re-starting, including Germany and the Republic of Ireland. So we hope it won’t be too much longer before we can too. When we do get the green light and can restart Bubble Rush we want everyone who takes part to feel confident that we have taken all the necessary steps to ensure the event is as safe as possible.
As members of the National Outdoor Events Association, Extreme Adventure (owner of the Bubble Rush event brand) is able to access up to date advice and information on guidance and best practice for mass participation events; so as soon as we receive guidance and a timetable for events restarting in the UK we will be ready and we’ll update you here and on social media. If your chosen Bubble Rush is rescheduled
If your chosen Bubble Rush is rescheduled you will be contacted directly by the event organiser. This will either be the hospice charity or Extreme Adventure, owner of Bubble Rush. Each event organiser has their own policy on ticket transfers and refunds. The event organiser will set out the options available to you. Options might include automatically transferring your tickets to the new event date, transferring to another fundraising event organised by the charity or requesting a credit voucher for a future event.
